Independant Film Companies

Independant films companies are those who do not work within major film companies, and are therefore not funded by them, often meaning the films they produce have to be done so on a low budget. Independant film companies tend to produce films with a distinguisghable content and style, crerated by the filmakers personal visions and structures.

Warp Films is an independant film production company based in Sheffield and London. It also has a further affiliated company 'Warp Films Australia' based in Melbourne. It has produced films such as This Is England, which gained many awards including the Best Film at the British Independent Films Awards, the Special Jury Prize at the Rome Film Festival and Best British Film at the BAFTAs. They typically distribute there films through UK cinemas, and are often very popular; evwen though they are typically filmed on a low budget with unknown actors.

Hammer is one of Britains leading independant film companies. It was founded in 1934, and is best known for its series of Gothic "Hammer Horror" films made from the mid-1950s until the 1970s. It has produced various well known trhiller/horror's, such as The Women In Black (2012), The Quiet Ones (2014) and Let Me In (2010), all of which were shown in UK cinema's. They have lots of competition in the horror film market, due to various major American film companies which recieve substantially more funding them Hammer Films.

Sigma Films is an independant film company based in Glasgow, Scotland. The company was founded in 1996, and creates films on a very low budget. They often focus on recruiting up and coming actors, such as Jack O'connell, in the film 'Starred Up'. Sigma have also used there premises as a studio for television productions, such as CBBC's School Of Silence, as a way to create a greater income which can be placed into there film production.
